Council urged to end elderly woman's plight

Dilapidated houseLeicester City Council has been urged to end the bureaucratic nightmare of an 86 year old Leicester woman who is suffering from Parkinson’s disease who has been waiting for months to be assessed for an adaptation to her house.

Amratbhai Bhanji’s family cannot move into their home in Evington, Leicester because Leicester City Council has failed to assess it for the necessary adaptations.

Old, frail and in a wheelchair, Mrs Bhanji is unable to move around the house nor have a bath downstairs. She needs constant care from her family, relying especially heavily on her daughter-in –law Mahdhu Bhanji.

Concern has been raised in Leicester and throughout the country about delay it takes for families to have their properties assessed for adaptations and these issues have been raised a number of times by Ministers.
